CAD Design

We have over 30 years of experience in 2D CAD and 3D CAD product design. Combined with years of practical manufacturing experience, we have extensive knowledge in part development, assemblies, and drawing documentation.

3D CAD Design Advantages

3D CAD design has many advantages over traditional 2D CAD design. The most significant is that 3D modeling allows better visualization of the product design and helps in integrating with simulation and virtual prototyping. When designing in 3D, the design is completed in one model, improving drawing efficiency and accuracy. Because 2D design requires multiple views of the model to attain the same representation, it takes significant more time and duplicates some of the same information which allows for more errors. The advantages of 3D modeling for designers is not limited to productivity and coordination. It is an excellent communication tool for both the designer and end user. 3D models can help begin important conversations during the design phase and potentially avoid costly construction mistakes.

2D CAD Documentation

Why is 2D CAD still important? Despite the fact that 3D modeling has transformed product design and development, 2D CAD engineering drawings (blueprints) are essential to understand every aspect of the part. They include geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), material and finishing requirements, and critical manufacturing details needed for accurate and consistent part production.

QUOTES-1

Oregon Swiss Precision is awesome! Their pricing is competitive with overseas manufacturers, while their quality is better. They proactively suggest design changes to reduce cost. They carefully review my drawings, on one occasion finding a mistake that would have been extremely expensive. I really can’t say enough good things about Oregon Swiss. They have been an absolutely essential partner in my fledgling robotics business.”

WHAT IS CAD?

Computer-aided design (CAD) refers to computers being used to assist the design process in all sorts of industries. With CAD software, it’s possible to build an entire model in an imaginary space, letting you visualize properties like height, width, distance, material, or color before the model is used for a particular application. CAD software is used to increase the productivity of the designer, improve the quality of design, improve communications through documentation, and to create a database for manufacturing. CAD output is often in the form of electronic files for print, machining, or other manufacturing operations.

BENEFITS OF CAD FOR DESIGN AND ANALYSIS

VISUALIZATION
It allows you to create and visualize 2D or 3D objects and make as many changes as you need with less effort than manually drawing it on paper.
DETAIL
Digital representation in CAD is very close to real life, making it accurate up to a certain level. You can also add as much detail as you need.
OPTIMIZATION
Finding fails during the design process is very difficult but CAD software can help in a very reliable way, even though they are not perfect. The more sophisticated CAD programs even allow you to run simulations to test for imperfections.
SPECIALIZATION
There’s CAD software for almost every professional sector with specialized features and tools for each one, making it widely applicable.
REALIZATION
You have the possibility of bringing your digital design to the real world in the form of a physical object with the help of fabrication technologies and CAM software, which would be more difficult and expensive with traditional fabrication methods.
